Overview of Google Calendar
I have found Google Calendar to
be an easy way to organize your schedule and share it with others if you choose
to do so. Google Calendar is a free online shareable calendar service. It is
easy to use and can be accessed from any computer with the Internet. All you need to do is set up a Google
account.
Google Calendar allows you to
create your own calendar(s). You
can invite others to look at your calendar or they can be given access to
add/change events on your calendar.
There is the option to add information to all events, including times,
directions, notes, or agendas. (Of
course, you have many options to customize your calendar so it meets your needs
and is set to your preferred style.)
This program can definitely be
used to keep the members of a busy household informed about appointments, extra
curricular activities, work hours, and special events. I can also see it being used by large
extended families as a way to keep in touch and remember birthdays,
anniversaries, and other special occasions.
In a school setting, I envision
it as a wonderful tool for faculty members. A shared calendar can enable teachers to check in once a
day and have an updated listing of the day’s events. Teachers and administrators can add or change events as
necessary. Hopefully a tool like this would help eliminate unnecessary confusion (Do we have a faculty meeting this morning? Where is the EST meeting today?) and wasted time.
I also think that it could be a
simple way to provide students with up-to-date information about class events
and assignments. The students
could access the calendar from home and instantly know what is expected of
them. I see this as a nice tool
for teachers who are not yet ready to have a class webpage, but who would like
to provide students with some of the features.

Organization
Jackie...I love your idea of having the school calender on line. I have so many different areas that I would want to keep organized and using the google calender is an awesome way for me to do it. I am slowly moving away from paper to technology. I appreciate your lesson on the calender, it opened another door for me. Thanks. Jen

It sounds like it will be great for my family to keep our calendar - rather than the old fashioned fridge calendar that no one looks at.
