Decision delayed two weeks by the USDOE

We received information that rather than making final decisions by the end of April, the new target is mid May.  A delay is not unusual, particularly when we heard that proposals were submitted by every state.  I hope USDOE can stay with their mid May target.  I will use this section to provide other updates as they become available.

SIF Expense

We too in the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union would be concerned about additional cost associate with SIF. We are currently in our second year of switch over to a new student management system supervisory union wide, and not at all excited about starting all over again. We are extremely satisfied with our product and have just begun launching the new components such as the parent portal and SPED module. We did have to contract above and beyond for a SIF agent to be developed to interface with our VersTrans Busing and Districting software. This was to the tune of $1,400.00.

We share South Burlington's concerns and feel these cost should be included in the RFP and listed with any bid provided by vendors.District's should not have to bear the burden.

Planning Committee

I would be very interested in serving on the planning committee to represent the Pre-k data and I am very excited that Pre-k is being included.

SIF

John Everitt
Superintendent
South Burlington School District

As I understand SIF, a district wanting to continue with its own student management system and align it to the state system through SIF would need to incur the cost of SIF on its local software.  If this is correct, does the grant provide support for districts?  If not, then this new statewide system adds costs to local districts.

Please correct me if my understanding is not correct or not complete.
