Global Classroom

Field Tested:
Yes
Description:

We are a small business in Burlington that focuses on promoting the use of Moodle by providing it free. We also provide free training resources and other online professional development opportunities. Any teacher can register and start creating their own online classroom using Moodle by visiting http://globalclassroom.us. Students can also register to participate in their teachers' classrooms by visiting the same page.

New Initiatives:
In early 2008 we will start creating a library of free course modules for teachers to utilize in their own classrooms (the first course module is an AUP/Copyright/Internet Ethics course developed in conjunction with the GEOSS project).

Also, this year we are promoting a new initiative in Vermont to implement Moodle at 15-20 schools statewide using our system. The National eLearning Leadership Cohort will connect educators also implementing Moodle from several states in a collaborative, shared online experience. Global Classroom will share all of it's training resources and will facilitate discussions, live presentations and on-site training opportunities as participants work to implement Moodle (without the hassles of acquiring server space, configuring the platform and generally 'going it alone').

Interested individuals or schools can contact Joseph Thibault (cell: 802-578-7422, email: jthibault@globalclassroom.us) for more information.

Questgarden

Description:

QuestGarden is an online authoring tool, community and hosting service that is designed to make it easier and quicker to create a high quality WebQuest. No knowledge of web editing or uploading is required. Prompts, guides and examples are provided for each step of the process. Images, worksheets and other documents can easily be attached or embedded in the WebQuest, and users have complete control over the appearance of the final lesson.

QuestGarden is modeled after a community garden with all the resources needed to bring great WebQuests to life. Users are encouraged to comment on each others' work, to share links and images, and to build new WebQuests on existing ones. Rather than starting from scratch, users can bring a WebQuest written by another member of the community into their workspace, modify the content or appearance to suit their needs, and use it with their own students.  Attribution to the first author is maintained, and authors are
notified when another member of the community makes an improved or modified version of their work. There is a fee, though quite reasonable, of $20 for 2 years. They also offer a 30 day free trial period.
